Steam Coils

Installation and Important Instructions

Steam coils need to be installed with proper guidelines. You can even take help of a professional for the best effect.

If you are thinking of installing steam coils, the guidelines given below can help

you. These guidelines are specifically tailored to meet all your requirements. However, you still need to get help from an experienced and qualified professional in order to perform the installation process. You also need to take help of certain protective equipment including steel toe boots and safety glasses. Always remember that steam can be seriously harmful to your body even at low pressure. The injuries can even be fatal. Hence, make doubly sure the steam coils system is in ‘off’ mode or all the components have been isolated prior to starting with the work.

a)      The instructions on the package:

Make sure you carefully go through all the instructions given below:

·      All heat craft coils are tested by factory, analyzed and packaged carefully

·      There may be some possibility of coil damage once these are out of the factory. Hence,it is very important to analyze shipping damage when you receive the coils

·       Make note of all missing or damaged items on the freight bill.

b)      Mounting:

It is necessary to mount steam coils properly. This facilitates prevention of water hammer. The process will also prevent your coils from freezing and corrosive elements from being accumulated in the tubes.

c)      Installation:

There are several steps to follow in order to make sure that you have installed the steam coils properly. Follow the steps given below:

·     Remove the coil from the shipping package carefully. This will prevent any damage to the finned surface area. In case, you happen to damage fins accidentally, you can easily straighten these via using a good fin comb.

·      It is necessary to clean the coil with coil cleaner available on the market prior to installation process.

·       Mouth the coil properly in order to make sure that the condensate drainage is positive.

·       Make sure you maintain proper clearance between the coil as well as other structures including the filter racks, fan, transition areas etc.

·      You need to focus on using vacuum breakers on every coil. Almost all steam traps need a positive type of differential in pressure in order to provide good force the condensate via the valve seat. In case, the pressure of coil drops below atmospheric level the difference of the pressure across the valve becomes negative. This will stop condensate from draining. The situation can result in serious damage or coil failure due to freezing and corrosion.

·      Make sure you trap each coil separately. The differences created in pressure from every coil can result in bad performance of coil and any possible damage.

·      You need to focus on providing an air vent for every coil. Make sure that the coil is at its highest location.

·       All steam supply lines should be drained of condensate.

·      The condensate return piping must be of the same size as the return connection of the coil from the outlet towards the steam trap.

·       Once you install the coil, you need to pressurize it to 100 psig with dry nitrogen.

All field brazing and welding need to be performed with the help of supreme quality materials.
