Tube Cleaning
Tube cleaning is a process that involves maintenance and cleaning of fouled tubes.
The requirement for cleaning is important. The medium transferred via the tubes can result in
various deposits and even obstructions to a certain extent.
In any industry or the process of system engineering, there are certain
specific demands placed on heat transfer or surface roughness activities. In various industries such as
medicine, pharmaceuticals, specific requirements are given importance such as germproof ness as well as clean
tubes.
The tubes are supposed to be free of any foreign matter. The process of tube cleaning ensures
freedom from corrosion that may appear due to deposits. Disasters such as tube failure can also be prevented
with the help of efficient cleaning.
There are several processes and types of tube cleaning.
Here are some of the most common types of tube cleaning and the process involved:
a) Chemical tube cleaning:
This is a process involves use of various chemical or cleaning liquids in order to eliminate
deposits and layers. One of the best examples in this regard is the process of coffee maker de-liming. In this
process, acetic acid or lemon acid is used to remove scale. Various other cleaning liquids can also be used
depending on the application field and material of the tube. Several processes of this cleaning method may also
need to go through the following multistage treatment:
·
Cleaning
·
Chemical activation
·
Rinsing
The chemical tube cleaning process is efficiently applicable for any specific diameter
desired.
b) Mechanical tube cleaning:
This process is under taken with the help of a mechanical system. The system is actually a
cleaning body that is pushed through the tube to eliminate all deposits existing in the tube wall. There is a
brush that is use to clean the tube with the help of a rod or a special flexible ring. When comes to large scale
cleaning process or in the industrial sector there are several specialized mechanical tube cleaning processes
available.
c) Off-line tube cleaning process:
An off-line process is one where the system required to be cleaned must be taken out of the
operation to let the cleaning body injected into it. This also facilitates the process of cleaning. The process
includes two different types of cleaning bodies namely; passive and active cleaning bodies. Passive cleaning
bodies may include certain types of brushes or specialized equipments such as scrapers or pigs. These are
inserted into the tube with the help of water, pressurized air or other medium. Active cleaning bodies are
robots controlled by remote. These robots enter into the tube and clean.
d) On-line tube cleaning process:
When it comes to the online process, the cleaning body is moved through the tubes via the
conveying medium. The cleaning part is facilitated due to the big size as compared to the diameter of the
tube.
e) Thermal tube cleaning:
In this type of cleaning process, the deposit or layer is dried via a heating process. Here, it
may flake off and thereafter discharged via the conveying medium or rinsing liquid.
